January 15, 2006

Hello and Happy January to everyone!  We just finished a busy Christmas season at the Arizona Folklore Preserve with several holiday shows and wonderful audiences . . . we do, indeed, have the best, friendliest audiences around.  This weekend, we present our first guest artist of 2006 - - - western folk artist, Sue Harris.  Her first show yesterday was absolutely terrific.  Sue's program was sweet, funny, and touching . . . her guitar work was lovely . . . and she's genuinely such a likeable lady . . . all rolled into one truly enjoyable show.  Sue performs at the Preserve again today (Jan. 15) at 2 pm.  If you have the chance to see her, come to her show. It would be a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Next weekend, Jan. 21 & 22, western blues artist, Hans Olson, will be on stage.  Dolan saw Hans perform in Phoenix last year and was so moved by his talent, his show, and the wonderful connection he made with his audience, that he invited Hans that very evening to be a guest artist at the Preserve.  Hans appeared at the Preserve a couple of months later and the audience adored him!  We've had folks asking since that performance when Hans would be back, but he's been so busy with his performance schedule, this is the first time in a year that Dolan has managed to get him booked.  Hans' personality on stage is very endearing.  His music is unique and very easy to listen to, his guitar work is fabulous, and his harmonica is beautiful . . . even to harmonica non-fans.  You will not be disappointed in his show.  If you see Hans once, you'll want to see him again.

Friday, February 3, is our kick-off event day here at the Preserve for the Cochise Cowboy Poetry & Music Gathering. .(The Gathering, which is one of the best in this part of the country, begins its performances at Buena High School on Friday night, Feb. 3 and continues through Sunday, Feb. 5)  As we have done for the past several years, we are featuring four wonderful artists in hour-long shows throughout the day.  It's a great way to see these talented folks up close and personal.  Because many of our guests attend all four shows, we offer an optional lunch for $10.00 which includes salads, deli sandwiches, chips, cookies, and drinks.  Shows are $9.00 each or $35.00 for all four.  The schedule runs like this . . .

February 11 & 12 brings another of our favorites, The Desert Sons, to the stage.  They sing the best in both traditional and contemporary western music . . . . singing in harmonies that blend like woven fabric.  These gentlemen are always a joy to listen to.

Tuesday, February 14, we are having a special Valentine's Dinner Show, featuring Dolan Ellis in his crooning mode . . . a fun way to spend Valentine's Evening.  Dolan will do love songs and easy-listening music in a show entitled, "A Valentine For You".  The theatre will be set like a small supper club.  Doors open at 5:30 with appetizers, a full dinner is served at 6:15, and the show begins at approximately 7:15.  Cost is $45.00.  Be sure to call for reservations! . . . we often sell out for our dinner shows.

Dolan Ellis returns on February 18 & 19 for his famous weekend matinees.  All of our matinees are at 2 pm, doors open at 1 pm.  Admission/donation for adults is $12.00 and $6.00 for students 17 & under.  For reservations, call 520-378-6165, or email folklore@email.arizona.edu.

As always, we thank the Ramsey Canyon Inn Bed & Breakfast for housing our guest artists.  Vicki, Bill, & Donna offer such warm hospitality in such a lovely Inn which sits adjacent to the Nature Conservancy's Ramsey Canyon Preserve with it's gift shop, magnificent hiking trails and world famous bird watching.  Keep the Ramsey Canyon Inn in mind when you need a cozy place to house your out-of-town guests.  For those of you who come from out of town, this makes a great get-away weekend . . . to stay at the Inn, take a morning walk on the trails, and come to our show in the afternoon!

We do thank you all for your support.  Hope to see you all soon at the Arizona Folklore Preserve where we are proud to keep our Western Culture alive!
