Tom Chambers is a great all-around cowboy artist.  He sings a mix of his original songs, such as "Green Sonoita Hills" and "La Luna de Sonora;" traditional songs such as "Ghost Riders" and "Back in the Saddle Again;" and lesser-known Western songs that are deserving of widespread attention, such as "Spanish is the Loving Tongue" (written around the turn of the 20th century by Charles Badger Clark) and "Man Walks Among Us" (a prophetic song written by Marty Robbins in the late 1950s).

Tom is also an outstanding guitarist, and he brings out his harmonica occasionally to add another dimension to his great Western sound.

As a cowboy poet, Tom wrote a very famous poem, "The Elevator."  It's one of those that has been plagiarized many times, but Tom is clearly the originator of this very funny story in verse form.   Tom also recites poetry by other writers such as Baxter Black.

Storytelling is a wonderful art form for the  Western/cowboy artist, and Tom is one of the best.  One of his well-known stories, a Tom Chambers original, is "A Good Trade.

Tom's humor is one of his greatest assets on stage.  "The Elevator" and "A Good Trade," both discussed above, are examples of his humor.  Tom has written special words to "Rawhide," the theme of the long-running television show, that are appropriate to the dude ranch circuit.  One of the Baxter Black poems he can usually be persuaded to recite, "Cow Attack," is one of the funniest stories, and Tom's delivery is great.  Tom's repertoire includes so much humor that his latest CD, "Horse Laughs," is made up entirely of that sort of material.  In addition to "Horse Laughs,"  Tom has released two other CDs, "Ranch Requests" and "Southern Range."   For CD information, click here.

Some of Tom's career highlights are:

  • Tom won a regional Emmy for writing the score for the documentary "A Warning to Beware."  A song from that documentary, "Thunder Across the Desert," is a great and very exciting composition.

  • Tom Chambers was the western music ambassador for Arizona in 1993 when he was invited to perform at the International Tourism Exhibition in Copenhagen, Denmark.  Two of his original compositions, “Thunder Across the Desert” and “Canyons of My Mind,” which were released by Comstock Records, were top ten hits in Europe.

  • Tom is the founding president of the Western Music Association, and currently serves on their Advisory Board.

  • Tom has been a Featured Performer with the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra and with the Tucson Pops Orchestra.
